Why this exists
Ads
The paid creative works three versions of one promise: whatever happens, it isn’t attached to you. The first is the flop — you posted, you got zero views, and nobody knows it was you. The second is worse: it did get views and the comments were brutal, and still nobody in your real life knows. The third is the upside — you’re getting real numbers, and nobody knows that either. Three outcomes, same point: you can try posting, and keep trying, without any of it being tied to your real-world identity.

Confessions — human faces
To bootstrap the network we’ve been sourcing stories from Reddit and elsewhere, producing the videos ourselves, and posting them to our own TikTok. We’ve focused on embarrassing, real stories — the kind someone would be hesitant to tell as themselves, but would happily tell anonymously.

Confessions — animal faces
The character doesn't have to be a person. Because the face is generated rather than filmed, it can be anything — we've experimented with animals and a range of other forms. These don't engage as well as realistic human faces and aren't our focus, but they show how far outside photoreal the models will go, and they make the anonymity explicit.

Skits
Skits are another use case we expect. Creators already record themselves from several vantage points to play different characters in a script — with Alias, each can have a different face.

Creator trends
A familiar creator anxiety is surfacing across TikTok: the awkwardness of people from your real life discovering the account where you perform, experiment, and build an audience. These videos make the case for a little more distance between the person posting and the person being watched.
